João Gilberto (10 June 1931 – 6 July 2019), was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist, who was a pioneer of the musical genre of bossa nova in the late 1950s. Bossa nova is a style of Brazilian music, which was developed and popularized in the 1950s and 1960s and is today one of the best-known Brazilian music styles abroad. Released in the year of the singer’s death (2019), João Gilberto – Live in Tokyo is a blu-ray that brings together 21 songs performed by the artist in a concert held on November 8 and 9, 2006, at Tokyo International Forum. This is a rare edition: the limited edition is only 5,000 copies and is sold exclusively in Japanese stores.

This is a historical record, as João Gilberto never allowed a show of his to be filmed so closely and sold at an official release. This is the only record of an official recording of João Gilberto’s live show.
